Managing Website Content

managing website content What is a Content Management System?

Firstly What is Content?
Content in this case is digital data. It can be text, images, graphics, sound, video and other information provided in digital format.

A content management system (CMS) enables technical and non technical persons to create, edit, manage and publish content in various formats. The system combines rules, processes and workflows enabling the presentation of the digital content in a managed fashion.

Web Content Management Systems

A Web CMS is designed to simplify the publication of ‘web content’ to websites, in particular allowing content creators to submit content without requiring technical knowledge of web based programming languages. The content is created, edited, managed and published directly online without the need to separately upload modified files to the hosting server.

Web content management systems are the types of CMS I work with, if you look at my other articles on content management systems you will understand that there are a few different types of CMS. Examples of the products I have used for present and past projects are Textpattern, Wordpress, Joomla and CMS Made Simple. They all have different qualities and I could recommend them all for differing applications and skill levels.
